SCENE ON THE STRAIT 2006
California’s Biggest Art and Environmental Festival Celebrates its 10th Anniversary
Sponsored by the Carquinez Regional Environmental Education Center (CREEC), Scene on the Strait celebrates its milestone 10th anniversary with a gala celebration Saturday and Sunday, August 12 and 13, at Martinez Regional Shoreline in Martinez. Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on August 12; and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on August 13. Admission and parking are free.
Beginning in 1996, Scene on the Strait has grown to become the largest outdoor art and environmental festival in California. Proceeds from the sale of paintings at this major, juried art show support the work of CREEC in preserving and protecting the Carquinez Strait. The nonprofit organization provides environmental education and work experience for at-risk teenagers who plant native oak trees and raise Monarch butterflies for release. CREEC has restored more than six acres of wild butterfly habitat.
The artists paint on site while art and nature enthusiasts stroll around listening to a jazz trio and eating great food on the historic Martinez waterfront. CREEC students will also be on hand to talk about their work. There will be a native plant sale as well.
The artists for the 2006 Scene on the Strait (along with the city where they live) are: Nikki Basch-Davis and Jerrold Turner (Benicia), James Christopher (Danville), Melinda Cootsona (Menlo Park), Mary Lou Correia, Geri Keary and Ramona Kennon (Martinez), Kevin Courter and Ann McMillan (Mountain View).
