Karin Korda was hired on November 1, 2005 to fulfill two positions. She will work as Propagation Coordinator with the Carquinez Regional Environmental Education Center (CREEC) and Watershed Coordinator with the Friends of Rodeo, Refugio, and Carquinez Watersheds (FRRCW). Mrs. Korda’s Watershed Coordinator position entails the restoration of local watersheds in northwestern Contra Costa County. The goals of Friends of Rodeo, Refugio, & Carquinez Watersheds is to; remove non-native vegetation, lead tours, pick up trash in riparian zones, propagate/ plant native flora, & provide outreach/ education to the public regarding regional watershed issues. In addition, the watershed coordinator will be a recruiting volunteers, leading/ facilitating group discussions, & project management.
Goals of the Propagation Coordinator are to maintain the enthusiastic involvement of local school children and community members in the two Crockett CREEC greenhouses and propagation program. Volunteers are needed to collect seeds, propagate vegetation, plant native vegetation, and volunteer in the Crockett propagation sheds. This makes the propagation program so unique because we are independent and self-sustaining. CREEC decides what seeds to collect, what to grow, and where to plant.
